After a few days of wandering the streets of cyberspace, JimQ has finally found shelter on a wordpress style blog.
Sadly, nobody but JimQ can start topics on this type of blog, you can only write in commentary on his posts. This really will put a crimp in developing a good debating platform on TBP.
Also, there appears to be no membership database, you can type in any old name you want to attached to your post. So nasty trolls can do all sorts of damage by posting up under other people's nom de plume.
Jim needs to find some better IT Geeks to set up at least a decent php driven board. A blog like that doesn't do his writing justice, and he's going to have trouble keeping up his following.

C'mon Jim. You've just gone to a 3rd world blog. Take your time, but do it right. We'll wait...

I really liked Jim's site and his writing. I will be one of the first regular members of his new site, but he has to spend some loot. Maybe we should donate more to help him develop it? I have not kept up with the divorce (lol!), but how much did he spend with RD? My brother works at a web development company in Seattle, and he told me Jim's old site was nothing special, but efficient. He figured developing it was around $2-3K (In man hours) up front, and hosting for a site with a database and decent traffic was $100-200 a month... Purely from a business perspective, if RD was costing him more than that he was getting screwed...

JQ has a home, true. The new site is a start, and I'm sure he'll do better in that respect.
But I always worry about the boy that the Reverend Egg is going to convert him into a Unabomber follower, and James is going to drop everything and head to a one-room cabin in the woods somewhere.
I've, of course, told him that I have about 40-acres of wooded property (in the South) that he can hide out on if he so desires, and he need not worry about water either because I have two wells on the property that feed off of an underground spring that the local water company told me could water a small city. Water has not peaked in the South, yet.

Plezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz........ There is only what? 1,500 of us... I said 1,500 or so....
We all are preaching to the choir, for peaks sake.......
Alessandro
1,500 is a significant amount actually. Forums and discussion boards grow unwieldy the bigger they get. If everybody subscribed for 10 dollars a year, that would be 150,000 dollars to be split among Jason, Jim and the designers.

JimQ has something to say, and that is his motivation for writing. Lots of people have something to say though and MANY of them are out there Blogging Away. A particularly interesting one I found a while back was Russ' Volatility Blog. No idea who he actually is other than I think he is currently unemployed and living in his brother’s house, but that might be another blogger I follow, not sure. He is very prolific though and writes a lot of very good original analysis.
Thing about Blogs is they are more or less the electronic equivalent of Vanity Press. You Publish yourself, but its not a really well set up Debating Platform. Really, if JimQ wanted to do a better job on the cheap creating a Debating Platform, the Yahoo Groups or Google Groups are far superior to the Blog he just put up. In fact, both those platforms have some better Bells and Whistles than Jason has so far dropped on TRD.
However, these Groups also tend to get “Lost” in the Information Overload we have of many people writing in many places across the web. Really, you could make it your life’s work sifting through all the Blogs out there to fnd those people who THINK they have something to say who really DO have something to say that is worthwhile and original.
Most of the best Bloggers have created their own websites that have more functionality than the typical Blog. Zero Hedge is pretty good, and Karl has done a pretty good job with his Ticker Platform. Then there are some Community sites which have pretty good functionality and some good writers, I participated on PeakOil.com until I got Banned there, and overall that one is pretty good but it has deficiencies of course. LATOC is another one like this.
To really EFFICIENTLY get the Newz out though, the Web needs a better Platform than all these individual Blogs. Better search capability is necessary, and the interface has to be better designed. I think Jason has done a pretty good job with this so far on TRD, but there is still a lot of improvement necessary to bring this type of User Defined Newz Media to fruition.
Sadly, to get something like this to work really well it has to be Monetized in some way. There are costs involved in the whole ballgame once you go past the Individual Blogger in terms of site maintenance and creating smooth editorial content which is easily searchable. The individual Blogger actually absorbs the costs of his own time in writing, and then if you run a Debate board, you spend a lot of time managing the Debate and the membership. Its VERY time consuming, I know I have done it for over a decade.
Anyhow, JimQ is in a bit of a Pickle here, because the Wordpress Blog he just put up will not get the kind of traffic he is looking for. If he wants to get his message out there, he will need a more Custom Platform, like the one Karl engineered for himself or the Tyler Durdens engineered for Zero Hedge.
Jason wants to monetize the system, he is driven by the profit motive, typical Capitalist Pig. LOL. However, its for a Good Cause in this case, he wants to get the Message out just as much as JimQ does. Monetizing the Internet Newz Biz though isn’t an easy thing to do, frankly the big newspapers like the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times have been TRYING for a while and not doing too well with it. I do agree with Jason that it IS possible though, if you make the interface sufficiently accessible and user friendly enough so people are drawn to the platform you create to get the Information they truly want, rather than the BULLSHIT being spewed across the Net by the MSM and searchable through Google. It’s a process though and will not occur overnight, and moreover the problems you get between Content Creators and Money Men can be extreme in this endeavor. JimQ’s EXIT stage left from this platform is an example of that type of problem. The Goals JimQ has and Jason ave of getting out the Message are similar, but the mechanism by wich you do that is very subject to economic issues. This is a plague on the Newz Biz always. One can only try to work around the issues and work inside a flawed system best as you can. Perfect freedom of communication is a practical problem of EXTREME proportions, and probably never wll be solved to perfection. You just do the best you can with it.

I agree with all but the "religion" enslaving part. God gave man "free will" to choose. Government is in the business of limiting free will or your right to choose.
Whippet
Well said, flash. That has been an atheist bullshit logical fallacy argument from day one, filed alongside "Atheists are smarter" and "Religion causes more wars."
AD and RE- you made me pee my pants laughing...
FYI- I don't think the trolls will be a problem at the new TBP; everyone is assigned a random "emoticon" that sticks with their account. (There are password-protected accounts). It's the same as the pictures on here. The posting functionality will come at some point.

Jason:
You need to keep the discussion topics moving along. Jim's site was worth a visit every couple of hours.
Keep the pace of discussion going, man.
