Uh, they have been targeting Americans for YEARS.

They're just making it legal - one of the last steps in the installation of a dictatorship.

If an American citizen joins Al Qaeda,  he deserves to be assassinated.

This video is from March or April last year. It was a Rachel Maddow video clip about seven minutes in length discussing permanent detention. Even the ultra progressive Maddow seemed VERY uncomfortable with this idea.

And for your other viewing pleasure and during a similar time frame (April 2009) we see this gem of from Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano about who can be named terrorists: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/apr/16/napolitano-stands-rightwing-extremism/ .

Down the slippery slope we go to dictatorship. Governments never learn, get big and believe they are bigger than the people they govern.

and who determines he's an Al Qaeda member?

does Al Qaeda exist as an organisation?

Smokey, are you a terrorist?  if yes, are you linked to Al Qaeda?  if yes, do you accept to be melted in a bathtub of sulfuric acid?

the question is not who deserves what, but what a "democratic" country is allowed to do to continue being regarded as democratic.

whoa smokey......

remember the weapons of mass destruction in iraq - our intelligence system is not that great. i agree we should kill every terrorist if they ARE a terrorist.  you do you trust to pin that label on someone??

as an american overseas, i am subject to USA laws - even if what i do is legal where i live the government can come after me if what i did is illegal in the usa.  america is almost the only country in the world with this law.

it seems strange that a government official, without due process, can legally issue a command for extermination without being subject to criminal prosecution - and yet they can come after me for doing a legal activity where i am located.  it is easy to label someone a terrorist because they disagree with the government.

Here is another article discussing the USA becoming a Police State: http://original.antiwar.com/roberts/2010/02/09/us-is-a-police-state/

The liberals are catching on to the old Marxist strategy that they have been had. A welfare state is part of Marxist strategy. If history is any guide, the liberals who now dissent will be the 1st targets on governments list of indefinate detainment program (making widgets six days a week for free as they are re-educated).

I believe people are beginning to feel like it was in 1775 where Patrick Henry famously thundered "Give me liberty of give me death!" The USA is another empire in the long timeline of governments who believed they were bigger than the people itself. It never is true but sadly, the tale always seems to end in misery and bloodshed.

What a tragedy our species never seems to learn that human nature and behaviors are NEVER different this time, human behavior is merely cyclical.

Our species number one motivator is the opportunity to benefit. The second motivator is the fear of loss. For the last forty years, a fear-based political economy has developed and we are just now at the tipping point. If the opportunity to benefit is not restored by the political system, it is highly likely we will see revolution within a few years, an outcome nobody should want to see! The elites always feel they are hedged and safe and no consequences of theft, murder or slavery will ever reach their doors. They should spend more time reading about history and human nature. Oh this time they were smart right? They'll all just move to Argentina and Panama as if globalization meant no other human being could travel there also.

If they did read more history and human nature, they would collaborate with the citizenship and open the door to the people solving their own problems instead of the people viewing leadership as the problem. But I know, that sounds too simplistic, how could a peon such as me understand vast, complex systems?

The Democrats howled and screamed en mass when it was revealed that a Republican president was running an extra-judicial eves dropping program listening to American citizens. Now it is revealed that a Democratic president is running an extra-judicial assassination program killing American citizens -- and there is nary a peep of public outcry. I don't think anyone will ever again cede Democrats the moral high ground, no matter how pretty their candidates talk about civil liberties. (And, to think I thought the biggest problem with Obama was his lack of follow-though on DADT.) This man is destroying the possibility for all other minorities to fulfill their aspirations for generations! Who is going to trust the next minority candidate who talks about change and progress, when the last minority president's promised changes morphed from war withdrawal into war expansion, renewed nuclear arsenal capacity, and hit squads targeting American citizens? This is so sad.     Glenn Greenwald - Salon.com -  Presidential assassinations of U.S. citizens

It is about time the left starts waking up and joins the rest of the people in recognizing what is going on in this country.  Plainly, we are on the road to totalitarianism.

I don't think the mass of Americans believe this stuff actually goes on.   They read the words, but its like pulp fiction.

Maybe its always been going on, and I just never saw it.
