For many small business it will cheaper to not provide insurance.  Since the govt will then provide, after paying a penalty less than what it costs to insure your workers, you are still in effect providing health insurance - just through the govt.  This bill makes ZERO economic sense.

What is is Jenn is a strong arm tactic to force small businesses into the government option. From that perspective, it makes all the sense in the world.

There is so much about this bill that is deplorable. This article hits just a few of the points, and does it well.

Maybe I am being a little conspiracy theorist here, but there comes a point when the things repeatedly laughed off as a conspiracy theory, truly are a conspiracy. I have never been a big anti-gay marriage guy, but that withstanding how many times have we seen anti-marriage legislation? Isn't there a consensus that marriage is beneficial to society and strengthens the family. Obviously there are exceptions, but in general, marriage is a good thing right. So why would we do something to discourage marriage, which is exactly what this health care bill will do for many.

I am not screaming that Obama-Reid-Pelosi are trying to destroy the family and eliminate the institution of marriage. I am 95% positive it is just an indication of how flawed their ideaology is. The government absolutely can not help one group of people without hurting another. However, there is that 5% that thinks wow this is part of a darker conspiracy.

A point not discussed in this article is the pre-existing condition clause. Maybe I don't understand what they mean when they say insurance companies can no longer deny a person coverage due to a pre-existing condition.

The way I understand it is if I do not currently have health insurance, and I have Cancer, insurance companies are forced to provide coverage to me if I ask for it. Is that the way it is? If so, I think that is an absolutely horrible idea.

It goes against good business strategies of insurance companies. Insurance companies have to make money to stay in business, and how can an insurance company make money if it is forced to cover someone that will undoubtedly incur more costs in insurance claims than they will pay in premiums. Obviously the risk of that happening does exist whether or not you have a pre-existing condition, but that is why insurance companies have actuarial tables.

If the government can now force insurance companies to cover people that the actuarial tables say should not be covered, it will be detrimental to smaller insurance companies. It really won't matter to the big ones, they have enough in reserves they can handle it, but the smaller ones, and ones seeking to start up will suffer. If we are wanting to increase competition, which seems to be a talking point I hear often, I don't see how having the pre-existing condition clause will do anything but decrease competition. In the end only the big insurance companies and the government will be left to provide insurance.

Here again, is this part of a darker conspiracy or just evidence of our current leadership being, for lack of a better word, DUMB?
