Mr. Paul wrote, "If government would stick only to what it was authorized to do, and leave the rest to the people, most of these problems would resolve themselves."

After 3 years haggling with bureuacrats over a development issue caused by bureaucrats, all I can say to Mr. Paul is, What a lovely thought!

In the famous words of Yogi Berra: "This is like Deja Vu all over again." http://www.heritage.org/research/budget/em181.cfm In 1982 [2010] Reagan [Obama] agreed to a tax increase [Hello!] with the proviso that Congress would pare $3 in spending [Hello Again!] for every $1 in new taxes. When all the dust had settled, it turned out that Congress actually increased spending--and the budgeti soared 63 percent between 1982 and 1985 [Deja Vu!] Using New Taxes for New Spending.

A spending freeze that takes place a year from now...reminds me of a sign I once saw in a bar:  "Free beer tomorrow"

Our economy is between a rock and a hard place.  Working our way out of it will not be over-night.  At least, after 8 years of sweeping wars, tax cuts and no-bargaining-allowed prescription drug benefit deals under the rug, we are finally acknowledging that we have to change!  This country has worked its way out of budget holes before, and we can and will again.  More of the same is not the answer.
